EASTERN-CENTRAL AFRICA
In 2018 I visited my twin-sister in Uganda, the country she lives and works since more than half a decade. For five weeks I traveled from the South to the North and the East to the West of the country. I was captivated by the beauty and all the wild-life. Being completely absorbed by the nature and the wild animals I started taking photographs without any specific project in mind. Often I felt like an invader of a space I did not belong to. I took time and often stayed for hours before I took a photograph. I tried not to expect anything and instead be open for a surprise. One day, I saw an eagle who nosedived right next to me to attack a Cobra just less than five feet away. It was a spectacle, something completely unexpected.
I will return to Uganda this year. This time, to continue my work with refugees and displaced people. The country is one of the largest refugee-hosting nations in the world with over 1,400,000 refugees. Many of them escaped war and violence from South-Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Kongo and the associated economic crisis and political instability in the region.
