MERI’BA

Meri’Ba documents a part of the West Nile to where I went for the first time 2019. Through my previous work experience with refugees I was invited by the GIZ to document communities in the West Nile area, in which refugees and host communities live and work side by side. I was working alongside a film crew, documenting the area and the people living there.

‘Meri‘Ba’ focuses on communities located in the northern part of Uganda at the border to South Sudan. For over 2 decades, Uganda has been a host country for refugees from South Sudan where the majorities are settling in the West Nile region. It is widely praised as the most refugee-friendly country. One of our interviewees who has been a refugee once and now is the priest of the parish in Moyo described his hope for the future as follows:

“Don’t call me a refugee, call me friend”.
